To ROOT or NOT TO ROOT Android – beginers guide to rooting

Advantages of Rooting:

1.Truely own your device

Truely in its true sense, rooting unlocks your device to its full potential. Don’t like this app? Trash it! Don’t want that app, but it came with the phone, so what trash that too!! :D It is possible to remove the preloaded apps with root access. You can even install apps that are incompatible for your device, change app permissions (at your own risk of course! :P)

2.Speed up your device

No rocket science here, your device runs on a processor. With root access, you can control the speed of your processor, tune it to the max, or even overclock it! More processing speed means faster phone, but be careful it can also mean an overheated, battery-sucking vampire! :P

3.Make your device last longer
We all loved the good old Nokia phones for one unbeatable thing: charge it and forget it! Its a shame that today, if a smart phone lasts a day of nominal usage, its considered pretty decent! Shut up! :P While there’s no denying that the battery demands of your smatphone has increased manifold from the reign of Nokia, but still, battery life hasn’t been the prime concern of the manufacturers or even the users.
Luckily for you, with root access, you can manage your phone’s resources for an optimal battery life.

4.No space, No worries No more!!
A personal favourite. Ever felt your phone needs more space for more apps? Woke up in the morning only to realise that you just can’t receive any more messages? Love your phone but curse it for the low memory? Okay enough of the drama! :P
Rooting your phone lets you dedicate a part of your memory card to serve as your phone’s internal memory.

 5.Flash a custom ROM
Own a Samsung phone? But like HTC’s software? Now with root acces you can flash custom ROMs (even third party). A custom ROM might be the difference between your friend’s dull looking phone and your fabulous looking phone. ;)

There are many custom ROMs available today with some of the best eye candy features. Check out the best ones is The Best Custom ROMs for your Droid.

6.Flash a custom Recovery

So you are tweaking your device every now and then, changing ROMs and installing heavy apps, doing this…..doing that :P
Chances are that at some point of time, you might wanna undo what you did, or you may even end up bricking your device. Now whats the solution? You can flash a custom recovery that can manage all your ROMs in one place.

7. Managing Backups made easier

With apps such as Go Backup and Titanium Backup, making and managing backups is no more a pain the ass :P Backing up contacts, messages, apps and what not..is just a click away and silent installation of apps in a batch is possible if u have root access.

Disadvantages of Rooting:

1. No warranty!!

Yes its true, you’ll void your device’s warranty(That’s true for a majority of manufacturers).  The manufacturer will turn his back away when you contact him for support. But there’s again a work around available, Using the SuperSU app, you can temporarily or permanently.
If you wanna unroot your phone, read this post How to Unroot My phone.

2.Rooting involves the risk of “bricking” your phone
In essence, a “bricked” phone is no better than carrying around a brick in your pocket. The phone is dead when it has been “bricked.”
3.Poor performance
Though the intention of “rooting” a phone is to give the phone more performance, several users have found that, in their attempts to speed up the phone or add additional features, that their phones lost both performance speed and features. Remember that when you “root” your Android phone, you are making changes to the stock operating system.
